Exciting Announcement: Rebecca Reid Becomes a Certified Vocal Habilitation Professional

Updated: Jun 28

Certified Vocal Habilitation Professional badge awarded to Rebecca Reid, recognising specialist training in vocal health and voice care support.

Rebecca Reid is delighted to share that she is now a Certified Vocal Habilitation Professional.

Building on her previous training as a Vocal Health First Aider, this new qualification marks an important step in her commitment to supporting singers, speakers, and professional voice users with current, evidence-based voice care and practical, personalised support.

What is Vocal Habilitation?

Vocal habilitation is the process of developing, restoring, and maintaining healthy, functional voice use. It includes early intervention strategies for vocal fatigue, tension, or changes in vocal quality, as well as techniques to build more efficient and sustainable vocal habits.

It’s particularly valuable for performers, educators, and anyone who relies on their voice for work.

As part of her certification as a Vocal Habilitation Professional, Rebecca completed an in-depth training programme focused on helping people recover from vocal strain, protect their vocal health, and build long-term strength and resilience in their voices. Her training included:

  • Understanding how the voice works – including detailed study of vocal anatomy, how the voice is produced, and what can go wrong when it’s overused or under strain.

  • Learning the science behind healthy voice use – how to recognise vocal fatigue, spot early warning signs, and take action to prevent injury or long-term problems.

  • Practical strategies for vocal recovery – including evidence-based tools and exercises to support healing, build strength, and restore ease in the voice.

  • Working with case studies and real-life scenarios – developing a thoughtful, flexible approach to supporting different types of voice users, from singers and teachers to public speakers and performers.

  • Mentorship and reflective learning – working closely with experienced vocal rehabilitation coaches and specialists to apply this knowledge in a real-world, supportive way.

  • Understanding when to refer on – training in how to work collaboratively with medical professionals, including ENT consultants and speech and language therapists, as part of a wider voice care team.

This training has equipped Rebecca with current, evidence-based knowledge and a toolkit of practical strategies to help others maintain a healthy voice—or get things back on track if something doesn’t feel quite right.

Why You Might Need Vocal Habilitation

Vocal habilitation is about building and maintaining a healthy, efficient voice—especially if you use your voice a lot in your work or creative life. You might benefit from vocal habilitation if:

  • You’ve been experiencing vocal tiredness, tension, or a loss of stamina

  • Your voice doesn’t feel or sound the way it used to

  • You’ve recently recovered from illness or vocal strain and want to rebuild safely

  • You’d like to learn how to use your voice more efficiently and sustainably

  • You want to proactively care for your voice before problems develop

It’s ideal for singers, actors, teachers, fitness instructors, public speakers, and anyone who relies on their voice daily.

Vocal habilitation is not the same as vocal rehabilitation—which typically takes place after a medical diagnosis, under the care of a speech and language therapist or ENT specialist.

Instead, vocal habilitation is a proactive, preventative approach. It supports the voice before or alongside medical intervention, helping you stay vocally healthy and avoid future issues. If needed, Rebecca can also help you identify when it’s time to seek medical support and refer you to the right professionals.
