Hi! I'm Rebecca Reid
Singing Teacher & Vocal Coach in Belfast
I’m a Belfast-based singing teacher (also offering online singing lessons) who helps adult singers of all levels and genres build reliable, healthy vocal technique — so you can perform with confidence.

I’ve worked with singers from across the UK (including Northern Ireland), Ireland, Denmark, Italy, Germany, and the United States — which just goes to show: distance isn’t a barrier when you’ve got the right teacher by your side.

I didn’t grow up dreaming of becoming a singer - or a teacher

Honestly? I wanted to work at McDonald’s and live in California (no idea why…dream big, right?).

Like many of my students, I started singing as an adult — not as a prodigy, but as a curious, full-time working professional who just wanted to sing like Christina Aguilera.

Even as an adult, I went through the traditional singing lesson model: weekly time slots, classical exercises, and exam preparation — the usual approach. I wanted to improve, but often felt it hard to stay consistent. Life was busy. Work schedules changed. And sometimes, I left lessons feeling like I hadn’t made real progress — just gone through the motions.

But everything shifted for me when I was preparing for my ABRSM Grade 6 exam and was given Voi che sapete from Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro. It wasn’t something I’d ever have chosen for myself — but as I started working on it, I realised it suited my voice in a way pop never had. It all just made sense.

That’s when I realised: I wasn’t meant to sing like Christina… more like Maria Callas.
Like many adult singers, I struggled.
I switched to an opera-focused teacher, hoping to develop my voice — but I quickly ran into technical issues that left me feeling stuck. My voice didn’t feel free. I couldn’t access the upper range expected of a soprano, and everything felt effortful.

I remember raising these concerns in a lesson and being told it would just “sort itself out.” But it didn’t. I started to lose confidence and quietly questioned whether I could ever really sing.

That changed in 2013, when — through a recommendation from a stranger — I found current teacher, Michelle Wegwart, an international singing teacher (Opéra Bastille, the Bolshoi, Zurich Opera, and Salzburg Festival).

Working with Michelle was a completely different experience. Her approach was structured and methodical — not just “sing and see what happens,” but focused on unpicking and rebuilding technique in a way that made singing feel easier, more efficient, and actually enjoyable.

For the first time, I wasn’t forcing my voice into someone else’s idea of what it should be. Instead, I started to discover a voice I didn’t even know I had — one that felt like mine.

That experience reshaped how I approached singing — and eventually, how I teach it.
I was encouraged to get curious — to connect the practical with the theoretical.
Because when you understand why something works, not just what to do, you gain deeper insight into how your voice functions. And with that knowledge, progress comes faster and more sustainably. You’re not just guessing anymore — you’re building with intention.

So I started reading, researching, and asking questions — and somewhere along the way, I became a full-on voice geek.

About Rebecca Reid
Here’s the more formal version — written in third person:
Rebecca Reid is a Belfast-based singing teacher who works exclusively with adult singers across the UK, Europe, and the U.S. She specialises in technique-first, health-focused instruction designed to help adults build reliable, healthy voices — so they can perform with confidence, online or in person.

Rebecca is a classically trained singer, having studied under international singing teacher Michelle Wegwart (Opéra Bastille, Bolshoi, Zurich Opera, Salzburg Festival). While classical singing remains her own vocal foundation, she has also taken pop singing lessons with Dr. Trish Rooney (Cork School of Music) to better support students exploring a range of vocal styles.

She holds a Graduate Diploma in Music from the University of Leeds (2017), and in 2018, earned a Master of Arts in Music Education: Instrumental & Vocal Teaching from the University of York, where she studied evidence-based teaching methods and vocal pedagogy — training that continues to shape her work with adult singers today.

She has completed over 100+ hours of continuing professional development with Voice Study Centre, Classical Voice Training, and Vocal Health Education, including one-on-one mentorship with renowned vocal pedagogue Dr. Kari Ragan. She became a certified Vocal Health First Aider in 2024 and completed the Vocal Habilitation Professional program in 2025.
